For Couples Struggling with Infertility
Infertility is quite a terrible disease, but in the vast majority of cases, if a person sticks to the program, we can help things along and cure their infertility!
We can successfully treat fertility in about 80% of cases.
It may require more treatments than initially thought; it may involve the possibility of using a donor egg or a gestational carrier.
However, if someone is dedicated to the possibility of having a family, and is open to different medical options, infertility is a curable disease.
For Loved Ones Struggling with Infertility
The best advice I can give is just let people know you are there for them. Stay away from saying too much or giving advice. This can backfire because if you’ve not been through infertility, you can inadvertently say something that comes across as hurtful.
Just remind people that you care for them, you care about their feelings, and you want to support them however they feel comfortable. Let the person undergoing infertility stay in the driver’s seat, so to speak. Sometimes they may just need some time, space, and the privacy to go through it all. And that’s okay!
If they want a shoulder to cry on…or if they want their privacy…whatever they need. Let them tell you what they require in the moment.

Background:
Dr. Burger is Board Certified in both Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility. She has special interests in hysteroscopic surgery, ovulation induction, PCOS, hypothalamic amenorrhea, and recurrent pregnancy loss.
Natalie began her studies in molecular biology at MIT—but realized that women’s health was of particular interest to her. She ended up working in a laboratory where she learned about the field of infertility. She knew that she wanted to specialize in women’s health and thought that obstetrics would be the field of focus. In the end, she realized that infertility treatment and surgery were what really drew her toward the field of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.
Reproductive medicine is an ever-changing and dynamic field where she can be a very important part of people’s lives at a point when they’re really struggling and facing personal challenges. She considers it a privilege to work with these special couples and patients in their quest to grow their family.
